Using the health fund directory
The searchable directory at /health-funds shows whether each fund provides cover, partial cover or no cover for hypnotherapy. Always confirm with your fund, as cover changes.

Our searchable health fund directory at /health-funds shows, fund by fund, whether hypnotherapy attracts a rebate. Each fund is marked with one of three statuses: Provides cover, Partial cover, or No cover. It's the fastest way to get an initial answer before phoning your fund.
How to read the statuses
- Provides cover: the fund pays hypnotherapy rebates under Extras cover on eligible policies.
- Partial cover: the fund pays rebates in some circumstances only, such as on particular policy tiers.
- No cover: the fund does not pay hypnotherapy rebates.
Why you still need to phone your fund
The directory is a starting point, not a guarantee. Even within a "Provides cover" fund, your rebate depends on your specific policy level, annual limits, gap amounts and whether the fund recognises your practitioner. Cover also changes. Funds add and remove hypnotherapy from policies over time. Always confirm with your fund before your appointment. Private health rebates explains what to ask.
What to do after checking
Once your fund confirms cover, the process is simple: attend, pay in full, take your tax invoice and claim directly with the fund. There's no HICAPS in clinic. The steps are in how to claim a rebate.
Common questions
Q: My fund shows "Partial cover". What does that mean for me? A: The fund pays rebates only in some circumstances, typically on certain policy tiers. Phone your fund with your policy details to find out whether yours qualifies.
Q: The directory says my fund covers it. Am I guaranteed a rebate? A: No. The directory reflects fund-level status, but your individual policy, limits and practitioner recognition decide the actual rebate. Confirm with your fund; their answer is definitive.
Q: My fund isn't covered by the directory or says no. Any other rebate options? A: No. Medicare doesn't cover hypnotherapy either (see Medicare and hypnotherapy) so without Extras cover the session is fully self-funded.
