The Norwest Method — Sleep

The problem is not that you cannot sleep. It is that you have learned to be afraid of not sleeping.

Poor sleep becomes its own trap. The harder you try, the worse it gets. The more you dread the night, the more the night delivers exactly what you feared. The Norwest Method is an 8-week personalised hypnotherapy program that addresses sleep at its psychological root — the hyperarousal, the performance anxiety, and the conditioned wakefulness that keep you from the rest your body has always known how to find.

Eight weeks. One program. Built around why your sleep broke down.

The approach
Poor sleep is almost always maintained by psychological factors — anxiety about sleep, conditioned arousal at bedtime, and a nervous system that has learned to treat the bedroom as a place of alertness rather than rest. Your program is built from your intake form after purchase: your history, your specific patterns, and the thoughts and feelings that are most active when sleep will not come.
Best for
People who lie awake with a running mind that will not switch off. People who sleep badly and then spend the next day dreading the night ahead. People who have tried sleep hygiene advice, supplements, and apps and are still exhausted.
What you walk away with
A nervous system that associates the night with rest rather than dread. The ability to let sleep arrive rather than chase it. And a set of tools that work in the moments when the old patterns try to return.

Poor sleep has a way of taking over everything. Some of these might sound familiar.

  • You get into bed and your mind switches on. The quieter the room, the louder the thoughts.
  • You watch the clock through the night and calculate how much sleep you will have lost by morning.
  • You feel fine until about an hour before bed, when a low-grade dread begins to settle in.
  • You have good nights occasionally, which almost makes it worse because you cannot work out why.
  • You are exhausted but not sleepy. The tiredness is constant but the ability to actually sleep feels out of reach.
  • You have tried everything the internet recommends. You are still not sleeping.

A program that understands why the standard advice has not worked.

  1. Complete your intake form after purchaseAfter purchase, you complete an intake form that covers your sleep history, the specific patterns in your wakefulness, the thoughts and feelings most active at night, and how poor sleep has affected the rest of your life. This shapes the entire program.
  2. Receive your personalised sessionsYour first four weekly sessions are written from your intake form. Each is a complete hypnotherapy session delivered as audio — about 25-30 minutes for the main session and 15 minutes for the mid-week reminder. You listen in your own time, in your own space. Many clients choose to listen to the main session in bed.
  3. Your week 4 Zoom check-inAt the halfway point, you join your clinical hypnotherapist for a 30-minute Zoom check-in session, included in the program price. This live session lets us see how you are going — including how your nights have been — and whether we need to tweak anything in your program. Your practitioner then uses what they learn to shape the final four sessions around that conversation.
  4. Your final four sessionsSessions five through eight are written after your Zoom check-in. They respond to your actual progress — not the program's assumptions about where you should be.

What's included

  • 8 personalised weekly hypnotherapy sessions (audio, approximately 25-30 minutes each)
  • 8 mid-week reminder sessions (audio, approximately 15 minutes each) — shorter settling sessions designed to be used at bedtime or during the night
  • A 30-minute Zoom check-in session at week 4 (included in the program price) — so we can see how you are going and tweak your program if needed
  • Access to your sessions through your secure Norwest Wellbeing member portal
  • Sessions written in the voice of your chosen clinical hypnotherapist — Paul Smith or Rebecca Smith
  • Lifetime access to your session audio
  • Program duration: 8 weeks
  • Total sessions: 16 audio sessions plus one 30-minute Zoom check-in
  • Payment: $497 in full, or $67/week × 8 weeks (cancel anytime)

Why hypnotherapy — and this format

Most sleep difficulties are maintained not by a physical inability to sleep but by the psychological state surrounding sleep — the arousal, the anxiety, and the conditioned association between bed and wakefulness. Hypnotherapy addresses this directly, working to dissolve the anxiety around sleep, restore the nervous system's natural association between the bedroom and rest, and install new unconscious patterns that allow sleep to arrive without effort. The audio format is particularly well suited to sleep work — the sessions can be listened to in bed, allowing the therapeutic work to happen in the environment where sleep needs to occur.

Frequently asked questions

Is this just a relaxation recording?

No. Each session is a complete, personalised clinical hypnotherapy session built from your intake form. The goal is not to relax you into sleep each night — it is to change the underlying patterns that are preventing sleep from happening naturally. The relaxation is a vehicle for deeper therapeutic work, not the work itself.

Can I listen to the sessions in bed?

Yes, and we encourage it for this program in particular. Listening in the environment where sleep needs to occur allows the therapeutic associations to build exactly where they are needed. If you fall asleep during a session, that is fine — your unconscious mind continues to receive the content.

I have had sleep problems for years. Is it really possible for this to change?

Yes. Sleep difficulties that have persisted for years are almost always maintained by patterns that have become deeply practised — the dread before bed, the hyperarousal in the night, the relationship with the clock. These are learned patterns. They can be unlearned. Duration of the problem does not determine whether it can change, but it does inform the depth of work required, which is why the program runs for eight weeks rather than two.

What does the week 4 Zoom check-in involve?

A 30-minute Zoom session with your clinical hypnotherapist, included in the program price. Your practitioner reviews how your nights have been, what has shifted and what has not, and whether anything in your program needs adjusting. Sleep often improves unevenly — some nights dramatically better, others not — and this live check-in lets the program respond to the full picture before sessions five through eight are written.

Do I need to change my sleep hygiene habits during the program?

The program does not prescribe sleep hygiene rules. If changes feel natural as the program progresses, that is fine. But the focus is on the psychological patterns maintaining poor sleep, not on compliance with a checklist. Many of the standard sleep hygiene recommendations actually increase sleep anxiety in people who already have a difficult relationship with sleep.

Is this suitable for insomnia caused by shift work or irregular schedules?

Yes, with some adjustment in expectations. The program addresses the psychological components of sleep difficulty and those apply regardless of schedule. Circadian rhythm disruption from shift work is a separate physiological issue that the program does not address directly, but reducing the anxiety around sleep can meaningfully improve sleep quality even within an irregular schedule.

Is this suitable if I am on sleep medication?

Yes. The program works alongside any current sleep management approach. We recommend informing your GP that you are starting the program. Do not change or reduce medication without speaking to your prescribing doctor first.

What if I want support after the 8 weeks?

An optional follow-up check-in is available after program completion. Mention it to your practitioner at your week 4 Zoom check-in if you would like to discuss ongoing support options.

The nights do not have to be something you dread. That can change.
