Is hypnotherapy right for me?

Hypnotherapy suits motivated people who want to change a specific pattern (anxiety, sleep, habits, confidence and more) and a free 15-minute callback can confirm your fit before you book.

Hypnotherapy is right for you if you have a specific pattern you want to change (such as anxiety, poor sleep, smoking, emotional eating or low confidence) and you're motivated to take part in the process. The easiest way to confirm your fit is a free 15-minute callback with the clinic.

Who it suits

At Norwest Wellbeing, clinical hypnotherapy works best for motivated adults, and adolescents and children with parent or guardian involvement. The clinic works with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety and panic, phobias, insomnia and sleep issues, weight management and emotional eating, quitting smoking or vaping, alcohol reduction, IBS, chronic pain, confidence and performance. See the fuller list in conditions we work with.

You don't need any special ability to "be hypnotised". Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention that almost everyone can reach with guidance. What matters more is wanting the change and engaging with the tasks your practitioner gives you between sessions. Read what is hypnotherapy for how it works.

Who it doesn't suit

Norwest Wellbeing is not a crisis service. Hypnotherapy at the clinic is not suitable for psychosis, acute suicidality, complex personality disorders needing specialist programs, unmanaged substance dependence, or anyone currently in crisis. If you're in crisis now, call 000 or Lifeline on 13 11 14. See emergency and crisis support.

It's also not a fit if you're looking for someone to "make" you change. Hypnotherapy is collaborative: no outcome is guaranteed, and your participation between sessions matters.

How to decide

Book a free 15-minute callback and talk your situation through with the clinic before committing to anything. There's no payment and no obligation. Or, if you're ready, book directly at /appointments or phone (02) 8069 9777.

Common questions

Q: Can I be hypnotised if I have a busy, analytical mind? A: Yes. Hypnosis is focused attention, not an empty mind. Analytical people often do well because they can concentrate: your practitioner adapts the approach to how your mind works.

Q: Does my problem have to be on your conditions list? A: No. The list in conditions we work with covers common concerns, but if yours isn't there, phone (02) 8069 9777 or book a free callback and ask.

Q: Do I need a GP referral? A: No referral is needed to book. Note that Medicare does not cover clinical hypnotherapy. See /health-funds for private health rebate information.
